The funeral of the late John GILLIS, Esq. took place yesterday from his city residence, Union St. and was largely attended. The remains were encased in an elegant silver mounted rosewood coffin, which was placed in the beautiful new hearse, owned by M.N. POWERS and drawn by well matched black horses. The procession, which was marshalled by Mr. POWERS, followed the remains to Trinity Church where service was read by the Rector, Rev. J.J. HILL. Mr. GILLIS was one of the congregation of St. Mark's (Stone) Church, but as that edifice is undergoing repairs, the funeral service was commenced in Trinity. The church service being ended, the procession re-formed and proceeded towards the cemetery. The pall bearers were: Francis FERGUSON, T.W. DANIEL, W.G. LAWTON, Edward L. THORNE, F.W. PICKMAN and Charles PATTON, Esqrs. Rev. Canon Harrison, Rev. George M. Armstrong and Rev. J. Carr, preceded the hearse and at the grave the service was performed by Rev. Armstrong, Rector of St. Mark's. {Editor's note: St. Mark's is an ecclesiasticalparish of St. John's (Stone) Church, Carleton St. (St. John)}
