While John MAWHINNEY and James ELLIS were on their way from Eastport (Maine) in an open boat, Thursday night, they were overtaken by a storm. The night being dark and the sea rough, the boat filled when off Red Head (St. John) when poor MAWHINNEY was washed out and met a watery grave. ELLIS clung to the boat which drifted ashore where he laid for some time insensible. After returning to consciousness he crawled to a house. The men resided at Maces Bay. MAWHINNEY leaves a wife and eight children.
