On 26th April as a party of men were driving lumber on the Poquiok Stream, George OLIVER of Queensbury parish (York Co.) while attempting to jump from a floating stick of timber to a rock near the shore lost his balance and fell backwards into deep and rapid water. As he could not swim he met a watery grave. The body was discovered thereafter among some driftwood in Allen's Mill Pond, three miles from where he drowned. He was 25 years of age.
