George F. CAMPBELL, postmaster of St. Andrews breathed his last on Sunday afternoon, age 89. He was perfectly conscious and up to an hour before his death was conversing with Robt. GLENN. At 4 o'clock he closed his eyes and without a struggle quietly passed into that sleep which knows no waking. The deceased was a native of Pennfield (Charlotte Co.), his father being James CAMPBELL, a loyalist, who was old enough to take part in the war of 1776-1782, serving as a Lt. in the 54th Foot. James Campbell was a Brendalbane from Scotland and it is said that had he chosen he could have acquired the Earlship. George Campbell was the youngest of twelve children. His family removed to St. Andrews soon after he was born. As a young man he engaged in mercantile pursuits. While so engaged he visited British Guiana and spent two years at Demarara and Essequibo. On his return he was appointed to the postmastership of St. Andrews. In 1838 he married Miss Georgiana Rosa FORBES of St. John and it is only a few weeks ago since she died. They leave behind them two sons, Chas. CAMPBELL of St. John and Capt. Howard CAMPBELL, master of S.S. "Lake Ontario" and Commordore of the Beaver Line of steamers.
