Religious & Literary Journal, Sept. 15th, 1829 - Robert STEVENS and Alexander DOWNEY of Indiantown (St. John) went out in a boat fishing for bass when one of the oars broke and the boat becoming unmanageable was drawn into the vortex of the Falls, swamped and upset. Mr. Stevens succeeded in getting a hold of the boat, managed to maintain his hold and was saved. Downey, who attempted to swim to the shore, unhappily failed and was lost. He was a native of Shelburne, N.S. and came to Saint John in the spring of 1825. - Mr. Stevens, who is still living and a resident of Saint John, is a hearty and vigorous man of 81 years. Mr. Downey, who lost his life was an uncle of Thomas R. JONES.
