Sunday afternoon, about 6 o'clock, Thomas BURNS, a tailor, discharged soldier from 33rd Regt. was observed running downthe street in the direction of the river at the Steamboat Landing (Fredericton)(York Co.) Having thrown off his hat, coat and shoes, he plunged in and swam for a raft of logs which lay opposite the landing. He got on top of the logs, stripped himself and plunged into the water through an open space in the raft. He was about ten minutes in the water when his body was brought to the surface by Charles McPHERSON, Esq, and Mr. NELSON who succeeded in getting a rope under it. (see original)
