Within the space of a little over two years the McCormick family, Newcastle (North. Co.) has lost five of its members, three daughters, the father, Andrew McCORMICK and Andrew, the eldest son, age 34. The death of the latter occurred last week. On Wednesday Andrew was assisting his two brothers, Edward McCORMICK and John McCORMICK, in shingling the roof of a small barn on their own premises and some time during the afternoon had well nigh completed the job, when they got pretty close together in their work and the stage gave way ... The deceased was one of the 'Sugary' settlers and was doing pretty well and after getting his crop in, came out to town to work for D.& J. Ritchie & Co., leaving his wife in charge of the farm during his absence. The poor woman, who is left with six children, the youngest of which is six months and the eldest is 11 years, was almost heart-broken when she reached the bedside of her dying husband and since his death her grief has been so intense as to cause her to refuse food having up to Monday morn. taken no nourishment whatever since her husband's death. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon. Services at house and grave were conducted by Rev. I.E. Bill, jr. (see original)
