When James M. GIBBON, postmaster at Collina (Kings Co.) left his home Saturday morn. to have a growth removed from his nose, his family entertaine some fears as to the success of the operation. In his journey he was accompanied by Jacob I. KEIRSTEAD of the same place. The operation was succesfully performed, however, and after spending a few hours here, they started on their return journey about seven in the eve. Near Joseph MITTEN's residence, about four miles from town, the horse Mr. Gibbon was driving, stumbled in descending the hill, with the result that both occupants of the carriage were thrown out. Mr. Mitten saw the accident and hastened to the scene. When he arrived there Mr. Keirstead was in a sitting position and Mr. Gibbon's head resting on his hands. It was evident to Mr. Mitten that life in Mr. Gibbon's body was extinct and he at once went to the nearest neighbors and told them of the accident. They, wishing to render any assistance possible, soon arrived, but nothing could be done. Coroner Burnett was sent for and he said Mr. Gibbon's neck was broken, which would cause death almost instantly. The coroner deemed an inquest unneccessary and allowed the remains to be taken to the deceased's home. Mr. Gibbon was 58 years of age. He leaves a wife and four daughters, three of whom are married. The funeral took place Wednesday morn. from his residence. Rev. J.A. Porter, Baptist, preached. Rev. A.H. McLeod, Free Baptist and Rev. Bayley, Methodist, assisted in the service. The interment took place in the cemetery at Collina.
