A melancholy accident occurred in our harbour on Sunday involving the death of five persons, emigrants who had lately arrived here in the brig "Silksworth" from Cork. It appears that eighteen of the passengers left the vessel in one of her boats for the purpose of landing in the city. (St. John) It was very foggy at that time and the boat proceeded but a short distance when they suddenly descried the Carleton steam ferry boat coming towards them. The engine of the vessel was immediately stopped but the passengers in the ship boat, becoming alarmed and confused, unfortunately upset the boat. Every exertion was made on board the steamer and by boats from the shore to save the emigrants but five of their number found a watery grave. viz., Mrs. COLEMAN of City Cork, Ellen HURLEY of Kennagh, County Cork, Mr. MORGAN of Tipperary and his wife, and James SHAY of County Kerry.
