Arthur I. TRUEMAN, who was born at Point de Bute (West. Co.) July 19th, 1850, is the son of Joseph TRUEMAN and great-grandson of William TRUEMAN who came to this province from Yorkshire, England, in 1775. His mother came to New Brunswick from Dumfriesshire, Scotland in 1833. Mr. Trueman received his education at the common schools of Westmorland and Cumberland Academy, Amherst, N.S. He graduated B.A. with honors at Dalhousie University, Halifax in 1872 and M.A. in 1878. In 1890 he received the degree B.C.L. from U.N.B. He was for some time teacher in the public schools in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and was appointed superintendent of the schools of the town of Portland in 1874. He resigned this position and studied law in the office of Pugsley, Crawford & Pugsley; was admitted to the bar in 1880 and became a member of the firm with which he had studied. On the death of Hon. J.H. Crawford, he formed a partnership with Hon. William Pugsley. The firm was dissolved in 1885 and Mr. Trueman has since conducted a large practice in this city on his own behalf. In 1881, he married Maggie E. McMILLAN d/o late Hon. John McMILLAN. In 1883 Mr. Trueman was appointed official reporter and publisher of the decisions of the Supreme Court of Canada.
