Bangor News, Friday - Patrick GALLAGHER, one of Bangor's oldest residents, died at 6:30 o'clock Thursday morn. at his residence No. 5 French St. Only last Sunday, Mr. Gallagher acted as one of the pall bearers at the funeral of James McGANN and on that morn. he appeared to be quite well, although he had been gradually failing in health and spirits since the death of his wife, which occurred somewhat more than a year ago. On Sunday eve. he complained of feeling unwell and on Monday a doctor was called, who found him suffering from a lung trouble and prescribed the usual remedies. Mr. Gallagher appeared to improve on Tuesday and Wednesday but did not leave the house. On Thursday he arose quite early, as was his custom, and had been up but a short time when he suddenly fell back and expired without a struggle, heart failure being the immediate cause of his death. The deceased was born in the town of Tempo, County Fermanagh, Ireland in 1818 and came to America with his wife, also a native of Fermanagh, when a young man. He first landed at St. John, N.B., went from there to Fredericton, where he resided for several years, and finally after a brief stay in Boston, came to Bangor, where he resided until the time of his death, a period of over 50 years. He was for years engaged in the tailoring business and afterwards in the grocery trade, in both of which he was successful. He served several terms in the city government, in both branches and ably represented ward one. Of his eleven children, six survive - Mrs. Mary McQUADE, Mrs. Isabel McGUINAN and an unmarried daughter, Miss Mary GALLAGHER, Thomas GALLAGHER, Arlington, Mass.; Archibald GALLAGHER and Wm H. GALLAGHER of this city, the latter being a member of the firm of P.T. Dugan & Co. The funeral will be held from St. John's Catholic church on Sunday.
