John GRIMMER, Esq., at the tim of his death probably the oldest citizen of St. Stephen (Charlotte Co.) passed quietly to rest Wednesday morn., age 93 years. He was born in St. Stephen in 1789 and during his life had been engaged in various pursuits of farming, lumbering, trading and shipbuilding. In 1858 he was appointed Deputy Treasurer of Port of St. Stephen and in 1867 became Collector of Customs at this port. He resigned in 1870, being then about 81 years of age. He was Justice of Peace for 40 years. In 1814, he married Elizabeth MAXWELL d/o James MAXWELL, Esq. Their married life extended over a period of 62 years ending with the death of Mrs. GRIMMER which occurred in 1876. Five of their children are still living: Mrs. Jas GRANT, Mrs. McBRIDE, W.W. GRIMMER, Esq., J.W. GRIMMER, Esq., St. Stephen and Geo. S. GRIMMER, Esq., St. Andrews. Funeral will take place Friday 2 p.m.
