Winnipeg, Manitoba Letter, Aug. 6 - Quite a number of Saint John boys are carving out a fortune and fame for themselves in Winnipeg and the Northwest. Among those who have been here the longest may be mentioned James TURNBULL s/o John E. TURNBULL, Esq. who with his partner, Mr. McMANUS, formerly a Portland (St. John) boy, are carrying on a door and sash business. Near their establishment is the building of Everett's Patent Flexible Wire-bound Fence. Here Herbert EVERETT s/o Charles A. EVERETT, Esq. of Saint John is making a new kind of wire fence. Willie THOMPSON is city editor of the 'Times' newspaper. M. McDADE, formerly of 'News' staff, has lately returned from Lake of the Woods where he went to recruit his health. Oliver T. STONE has gone to Qu'Appelle and Long Lake region where he has put up a snug house and barn near the town of Sussex and is preparing to start a cattle ranch. Charley TUCK son of the Recorder of Saint John is Post Office Inspector. James MAXWELL has charge of J.G. MacDONALD's lumber yard here. Vic. MILLIDGE s/o Thos. E. MILLIDGE, Esq. is carrying on the provision and feed business near the C.P.R. station. In the wholesale meat and provision store of Penrose & Rokan, Millard STAPLES, formerly of St. Mary's (York Co.) N.B. holds the position of book keeper. Arthur HILYARD and his younger brother are in the dry goods house. Colly CROOKSHANK s/o Asst. Receiver General of St. John is accountant at the Penitentiary at Stony Mountain a few miles from the city.
