A sad accident occurred to the infant child of Walter ALLEN of Duke Street, Carleton (St. John) Saturday eve. Mrs. Allen, who had been holding the child, laid it down on a sofa with its head resting on a down-pillow. When she returned shortly afterwards she was horror stricken to find her baby dead. Dr. White, the coroner, was quickly called, but could do nothing for the little one as it was past all medical aid. When the child was found its face was buried in the pillow. It is supposed that shortly after Mrs. Allen had left the child it partly turned over and the down-pillow being so soft quickly smothered it to death. The child was a healthy and promising little girl not quite three months old. Coroner White did not think an inquest was necessary.
