The remains of E.L. THORNE were buried yesterday in Rural Cemetery (today named Fernhill Cemetery) (St. John). The funeral procession started from his residence, corner Waterloo and Paddock Streets at 2:30. Walking in front of the hearse, according to old time usage, were the undertakers. Joseph LAWRENCE and George LAWRENCE, Rev. George M. Armstrong, Rector of St. Mark and Dr. William Bayard and Dr. S.Z. Earle, The procession moved down Waterloo St., turned into Peter's St. on the way to St. John's Church. At the church door, the body was removed from the hearse by pall bearers: W. JACK, T.W. DANIEL, J. DeW. SPURR, Capt. CHISHOLM, Sheriff HARDING, R.W. CROOKSHANK. and carried by them down the main isle of the church to the altar, the organ playing the Dead March in Saul. The body was enclosed in a handsome casket ornamented by a floral wreath. Before reading from the scripture, the choir sang 'Rock of Ages Cleft For Me' and at the close of the service 'I Heard the Voice of Jesus'. As the body was being carried out the Dead March in Saul was again played upon the organ, and as the procession moved away from the door the church bell commenced to chime.
