John McANULTY, formerly of this place and whose mother at present resides at the corner of Metcalf and Adelaide Streets, North End, will not be hanged today, as the death sentence passed upon him in San Francisco was yesterday commuted to imprisonment for life. His mother received a despatch from San Francisco just as she was preparing to retire for the night. The crime for which McAnulty was to hand was committed in March 1888 and in the fall of that year he was convicted. The crime he committed was that of killing one John COLLINS with whom he had a quarrel. (see original)
