Maud SEYMOUR, aged 10 years, d/o Robert SEYMOUR, sexton of Marysville Methodist church, left her home at the usual hour yesterday afternoon for school on the opposite side of the river. Her custom was to cross the river by a temporary crossing built by the mill men near the site of the old bridge, instead of taking the round about course by the highway. The little girl's brother, who usually accompanies her to school, did not wait for her yesterday afternoon. When the latter returned home after 4 o'clock, his mother enquired of him where Maud was and was astonished when told that she had not been to school. At once the thought of falling off the temporary crossing struck her, and soon almost the entire village was out searching for the missing one. The river just below the dam where the crossing is, was dragged. The mother's suspicion turned out to be too true for in a little while the dead body of her daughter was brought to the surface. When the remains were conveyed to her home, Mrs. Seymour became faint with grief and could scarcely be consoled. It is supposed the unfortunate girl was blown off the narrow walk by the high wind prevailing at the time.
