The relatives and friend of George Edward THORNE formerly of (St. John) city were smitten with grief Tuesday by learning of his sudden death in City of Omaha, Nebraska on the previous day. His remains were carefully watched over by the Press of Omaha, who arranged for their temporary interment, awaiting advices from relatives in this city. The body was placed in a metallic coffin which will be forwarded to this city for final burial. The deceased was the second s/o E.L. THORNE, Esq. of this City, Chairman of the Board of Appraisers, and at the time of his death was in his 31st year. His connection with the Press commenced with an engagement on the 'Morning Telegraph' as a Reporter, during the first Confederation campaign. Leaving this city, he secured employment on the New York 'Daily News' and later a remunerative engagement on the New York 'Herald', in each case as City news reporter. Going West, we find him on the 'Louisville Journal' of which Geo. D. PRENTICE was editor, and thence he passed to the Chicago 'Tribune'. Subsequently he aided in the starting of the Omaha 'Evening News', a daily; thence he advanced to the position of City Editor of the Omaha 'Daily Herald', and afterwards arose to Editor-in-Chief of the 'Daily Republican'.
