Spruce Lake yesterday afternoon was the scene of a sad accident. Ernest E. BONNELL of this city shot and killed himself about 8 o'clock in the afternoon. Saturday morn. Wm McKAY and his son, Robert McKAY and James KINNEAR, an employee of Pender's nail factory, started on a shooting trip to Spruce Lake. ... Coroner Jas. Robinson of Lancaster was notified of the accident. He at once impanelled a jury and visited the remains. A verdict of accidental death was returned and the body was removed to the residence of William BONNELL, 101 Simonds Street, who is the father of the young man. Mr. Bonnell was 21 years of age and had learned the sailmaker's trade in the loft of Messrs. George Holder & Son, but had not been employed for some time. He was an inexperienced hunter, having been out but very little and had been warned several times during the day against handling his ghun carelessly. (see original)
