Reben QUARTERMAIN, nephew of Fred QUARTERMAIN of thic city, with his wife and child, arrived in the city yesterday from Minnesota. Mr. Q. has been in the west for about four years. He was located at Partridge, Minn., but has now returned to the city and will probably stay here. Mr. Q. passed through the great forest fires that have recently swept over Minnesota and Wisconsin. Patridge, where he has resided, is 16 miles from Hinckley where so many lives were lost. Mr. Q. saves the live of himself and family by spending a whole night in a lake about a mile from Partridge. ... Mr. Q. says there were several New Brunswick people in the vicinity, but he did not think any had lost their lives. George NEVERS, whose sister is in the employ of Mrs. T.C. ALLEN, had not been heard from since the fire and was given up as lost, but Mr. Q. reports him safe in Duluth. (see original)
