Melancholy Accident! On Tuesday last, Daniel McDOUGALL, one of the Branch Pilots of this Port, accompanied by James LANE s/o Edward F. LANE, a lad of about 18 years of age, were proceeding in an small boat from Sand Point to the Beacon Light House and when within about 200 yards of the landing, they were thrown by the upsetting of the boat. Both parties succeeded in gaining the bottom of the boat where they remained together but a short time. The violence of the see soon obliging the latter to let go of his hold when he sunk to rise no more. The former remained on the boat about an hour when he was taken off in an almost lifeless state by Alexander REED, Keeper of the Partridge Island Light House, whose attention has been directed to the situation of the young man by the howlings and gestures of a valuable dog, and being taken to his house, received the kind attention of Mrs Reed and family and is now fast recovering. The body of Mr. Lane has not yet been found.
