James W. FORBES, who was stricken with paralysis on Monday last, died Saturday eve. about 6 o'clock. Deceased retained consciousness up to Friday. Mr. Forbes was one of the oldest residents of the city and has seem the place grow from a few struggling houses to its present size. He was born in Halifax in 1806 and has been a continuous resident of Moncton for over 15 years. He was engaged in early life in the shipbuilding line, following that occupation as long as ships were built here. He was working as a moulder with the Salters in 1853, at the time of the successful agitation for the ten hour days, the working hours previous to that time having been from daylight to dark. He leaves three sons and two daughters. The former are G.V. FORBES, merchantm, with whom he lived; John FORBES, baggage master, I.C.R. and Alderman J. Temple FORBES. The daughters are Mrs. L.B. STORMS, Moncton and Mrs. CARD, Hopewell (Albert Co.) The funeral takes place at 14 o'clock from residence of G.V. FORBES, Steadman Street.
