When William GUTHRIE of Carleton (St. John) and Jane ONGE, were arrested a few days ago, it was discovered that the girl was about to become a mother. Yesterday Detective Ring solicited subscriptions and raised $5.50, the sum required to have a marriage ceremony performed and the couple were united at the Cathedral at noon by Rev. Father Casey. Detective Ring acted as best man. The couple were being held on a charge of stealing from the residence of Mrs. J. Fred Seely on Germain St. Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie were taken before the police magistrate after the marriage had been performed, but Mrs. Seely did not wish to prosecute and they were allowed to depart.
