A. Cavour CHAPMAN, senior councillor for Ward 2 is a son of Robert A. CHAPMAN and comes from one of the oldest families in Westmorland. His great grandfather and his great-great grandfather emigrated from Yorkshire, England in 1775 and in the old days both represented Westmorland County in the N.B. Legislature. Councillor Chapman's father, though now a resident of Moncton, was born in Dorchester and lived there up to within a year or two ago and from 1866 to 1878 built upwards of thirty vessels, principally barques and ships. Counc. Chapman came to Moncton in 1880 as bookkeeper for A.J. Babang & Co. In 1887 he went into business on his own account with the late Edward ALLEN. He was first elected a councillor last year.
