Fredericton, Sept. 15 - The funeral of Charles H. CLOWES, sheriff of Sunbury Co. who died Friday afternoon, took place this afternoon. The remains were interred in the Church of England burial ground; the services at the house and grave being conducted by Rev. Brown. Mr. Clowes was stricken with paralysis in July of last year and has been in poor health ever since. He was born in Maugerville parish in 1817. He married a daughter of Major GILBERT, the original proprietor of Mauger's Island. Deceased was for many years a member of Sunbury County council and held position of warden of the county. He was appointed sheriff by the present government in 1883. Four members of his family survive him: Charles T. CLOWES, Maugerville; George CLOWES and A. Stanley CLOWES, living on the homestead; and a daughter, Miss Bessie CLOWES.
