On Wednesday eve. Joseph IRVING, age 9, s/o Robert IRVING, moulder at the Burrell-Johnson Iron Works, was fishing in the harbor near the Gas Works, when he fell off the wharf. His brother, Robert was at his tea, but hearing that Joseph was in the water he rushed to the rescue and plunged in. He succeeded in holding his brother above the water until he was picked up by a boat, but sad to relate he sank himself and although his body was immediately recovered all efforts to restore life were in vain. He could not have been more than five minutes in the water, but it is supposed that he was seized with a cramp, as he was very warm at the time. - 'Yarmouth Herald'
