100 years ago today the late Jonas CUTLER was born in a building located on the banks of the little creek just below the sugar refinery. The creek now stops at the outer edge of the main road where it is still quite noticeable, but 100 years ago it made up into the marsh a considerable distance and vessels went up. The building in which Mr. Cutler was born was used as a store and in the absence of wharves, small vessels carrying supplies for the settlers ascended the creek and discharged their cargoes at the store which was doundtles the first establishment of the kind in this locality. Remains of old buildings were found in the mud when excavations were made for the refinery buildings. Mr. Cutler resided for a time in the northern part of the province where he engaged in business, but later in life he returned to Moncton, dying about 28 years ago at the ripe age of 72. Deceased was the father of Miss Cutler of Moncton and grandfather of William COWLING of Cowling & Co.
