H.C. ELKIN has received from the captain of the schr. "Bessie Parker" particulars of the drowning of the mate, Harry RICHARDS of this city. The accident occurred about 1 o'clock in the morn. of Feb. 27th. One of the crew was out on the jibboom furling the flying jib and called for help. Another of the crew started for him, but the mate passed the fellow and went on. Together they got the sail rolled on the boom and were just passing the gasket around when the schooner gave a lurch and the mate lost his hold, pitching head foremost over the sail and into the water. He was never seen again. He was 28 years of age and unmarried.
