On Saturday eve. Alfred THOMPSON, age 18, s/o W.S. THOMPSON took his boat for a sail in the river. The water was rough and a strong easterly breeze was blowing. After sailing a short time he took another boy, Fred DOOE, age 14, with him and also put in extra ballast in order that they might carry as much sail as possible. Shortly afterwards several persons on both sides of the river, saw the boat ship water and almost immediately sink. George HINDS of Calais put off in a boat, but before he reached the spot the only boy he could see sank for the last time. On Sunday at noon grappling parties succeeded in finding the bodies. Wound round the arm of Alfred Thompson was part of the sheet rope which had evidentally gragged him down. The funeral of both boys took place Monday afternoon.
