We received the news by telegraph Monday afternoon of the death on that day of George MOFFATT, Esq., age 67, late M.P. for Restigouche. He was born in Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland on 1st January 1811. He came out to Richibucto (Kent Co.) in 1831 and two years later took up his residence at Dalhousie where he built up a large business in lumber manufacturing. He represented Restigouche in the House of Commons. In 1868, he ran for the seat against Wm Caldwell, Esq. and was unsucessful, but on the death of the latter again appealed to the Constituency and first returned in November 1870. He retained his seat until last summer.
