The death occurred at Carleton (St. John) yesterday of Joseph STANTON after a long illness of Bright's disease. Mr. Stanton was well known as a baseball player and caught for the Shamrocks one season. Nearly two years ago he and a companion, Thos. CAMPBELL, since dead, were in the boat from which the two girls, Miss KING and Miss ALLEN were drowned at Reed's Point and they will be remembered as having shown remarkable bravery in their endeavours to save their companions. The exposure they were forced to undergo at the time caused them to contract colds from which they never recovered. Mr. Campbell died about a year ago. The Carleton branch of C.M.B.A., of which Mr. Stanton was a member, met last eve. and made arrangements to attend the funeral of the deceased, which takes place from his late residence, Sand Point, Carleton.
