The Hon. Edward Barron CHANDLER was born in Nova Scotia in 1800. Removing at an early age to N.B. he studied law in the office of his kinsman, the late Judge BOTSFORD and was admitted to the Bar on attaining legal age. In 1827 he was elected a member of the House of Assembly for Westmorland County and sat in the House for nine years. In 1836 he was appointed a member of the Legislative Council. Mr. CHANDLER was a member of the Provincial Parliament for 13 years. He was a minister without portfolio. In 1833 he was deputed to proceed to England on the question of casual and territorial resources of the Province. In 1850, he was appointed a delegate to Canada with the Hon. Joseph HOWE from Nova Scotia on the subject of the Intercolonial Railway; and in 1852 was deputed to proceed to Washington to look after the interests of N.B. in the negotiation of the Reciprocity Treaty and in 1856, he retired from public life. He was for several years senior member of the Executive Council and Premier of the Government. (see original)
