Alex. McBEAN of the Ledge (Charlotte Co.) met a terrible death last week. He had come to town with the intention of visiting his daughter, Mrs. C.W. TOAL, and on arriving at the door of her residence was suddenly taken ill. Mrs. Toal came out to assist her father into the house and had encircled him with her arms for the purpose, when a ferocious dog, belonging to Thos. TOAL, which was standing near, sprang upon the old gentleman and began to mangle him in a frightful manner. Mrs. Toal did all that she could to haul off the brute, but before she succeeded her father was so fearfully lacerated that he died from the effects of his injuries in a few days. Mr. McBean was upwards of 70 years of age. His funeral took place Tuesday.
