About 9 o'clock Sunday morn. says the Halifax 'Chronicle', Thomas DRYDEN, employed as a messenger and boatman for the Dept. of Mines and Works, left the city in a boat belonging to the Dept., for a sail on the harbor, taking with him, Daniel McDONALD, a baker and a boy named Frank BROOKS. There was a strong breeze blowing and the little craft went down the harbor at a dashing rate. When in the Eastern Passage, opposite Lawlor's Island, the boat, unable to carry the sail that was crowded on her, capsied and sunk. The accident was observed by some persons who were also sailing in the vicinity. They ran their boats to the scene of the accident and succeeded in saving the two men. Young BROOKS sank and drowned before rescuers reached him. He was about 13 years of age, a s/o George BROOKS of the Fish Market.
