A sad case of drowning occurred in the St. John River, opposite Kilburn's Landing (Victoria Co.) on Sunday morn. 15th inst. The unfortunate young lad, about 16 years of age, came out from Scotland about three years ago with Mr. BISSIT, his grandfather, who along with a numerous family settled at Upper Kintore. The lad's mother, whose husband died about two years ago, on account of hard times had to leave the settlement in order to try and make a living. The boy's name is KELLAR and he was residing with Mr. PORTER whose farm is quite near the river and having been sent to the Post Office and finding that the mail had not arrived, went to the river to bathe with a dozen of others. It is said that Kellar got a little beyond his depth. (see original)
