Robert TURNER, head of the dry goods firm Messrs. Turner & Finlay, died yesterday morn. at Victoria Hotel, St. John, age 49. Mr. Turner was a native of St. John and a s/o late William TURNER, iron worker. He began his career when a lad as a clerk with the dry goods house of Messrs. Horsfall & Sheridan, and afterwards with Messr. J. Vassie & Co. He was their English buyer for many years. Before the fire he formed a partnership with E.D. WATTS and the firm of Messrs. Watts & Turner did a large business. After the former's death, Mr. Turner continued the business alone for some years and then associated with his brother-in-law, Robert FINLAY. About a year ago he was compelled to seek absolute rest and placed his business in the hands of trustees to be wound up. Mrs. Finlay, who is a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is now at her home with her three children. - St. John 'Globe' (D.T., Feb. 17: Mrs. Turner and her three children are now in Scotland, visiting her birthplace. The funeral takes place this afternoon from residence of Geo. ROBERTSON, the deceased's brother-in-law.
