Capt. William CLEVELAND of the schooner "Deer Hill", who was struck by the sail with such force to be thrown overboard Oct. 8 near Vineyard Haven, was a son of Alexander CLEVELAND of Alma (Albert Co.). The body rose to the surface but sank from sight before the boat could reach it. His wife and two small children were with him on the vessel. The captain was about 40 years of age and had sailed from the port of St. John over 15 years.
