Fredericton August 12: Saturday last John ALLEN, colored man under sentence of death for capital crime of robbery conveyed from gaol of this county to Saint John in charge of Deputy McBEATH and two constables to be transported thence to Bermuda pursuant to an order of his honor Chief Justice made in consequence of a commutation of his punishment to transportation for 14 years, the Executive having interposed the Royal Mercy and spared his life. His companion in guilt Guy BROWN also under the sentence of death was granted a free pardon, assisted in a petition numerously signed.
