Hon. Archibald HARRISON, president of the Legislative Council of N.B. is a leading representative of the agricultural interests of the provinces as well as a leader in public life. His grandfather, James HARRISON, was one of the Loyalist founders of the province. His father, the late Hon. C. HARRISON, was for years a member of the Legislative Council. His mother was a daughter of Jeremiah BURPEE of Sheffield (Sunbury Co.), one of the first English settlers of the province. Born at Cambridge (Queens Co.) May 27th, 1834, Archibald Harrison removed in 1847 with his parents to Maugerville, wjere the family have since remained. The youth received his education at Cambridge and Maugerville schools and adopted farming as his vocation. In 1868 and three following years, Mr. Harrison was a member of the Provincial Board of Agriculture. Mr. Harrison's first entry into the field of politics was in 1868 when he unsucessfully contested Sunbury Co. for a seat in the Assembly. Two years later, however, he was successful and held his seat until April 8th, 1874 when he was called to the Legislative Council. On March 3rd, 1883 he was made a member of the Executive Council to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Hon. James Ryan. He has been a member of the senate of U.N.B. since 1873. In 1870 he was elected warden of Sunbury Co. Mr. Harrison was united in marriage Nov. 5th, 1862 with Amy BARKER d/o late W.S. BARKER, a former representative of Sunbury Co. in the Legislature of N.B.
