A drowning accident occurred in Hall's Creek at the aboideau in thr rear of the residence of A.E. KILLAM. Esq., Lewisville (West. Co.) just outside town limits yesterday by which a young son of Mr. WHALEN, night watchman in the Sugar Refinery, lost his life. About 10 o'clock a number of boys, including Louis WHALEN, age 10, his brother, George WHALEN, a year or two younger, Neddie HARRIS, Gerald McEWEN, Harry FORBES, Moodie KEITH and Bassiang GUTRO, all lads to 12 years of age, were in the Creek bathing at the point above the aboideau. Most of the lads were dressing when they heard Louis Whalen yell to his brother three times to help him. He had apparently stepped off the bank over his depth and being unable to swim was drowning. Some of the boys tried to rescue him but did not succeed. An alarm was soon given at Mr. Killam's and a search commenced by diving, but the water in the creek being very muddy the body could not be found. About two hours afterward, the tide being then nearly out, James ROSS noticed the body at a point just above the bridge across the Lewisville road, stuck to a log. The body was secured by Charles CARTER and conveyed to the home of the parents on Telegraph St., Moncton. Mrs. Whalen, who is step-mother to the boy, was nearly prostrated with grief. The boy was laid out in a small room with his pants, a checked shirt and braces on. An inquest will be held by Coroner Wortman this afternoon.
