While the schr. "Almeda" with a scow in tow was passing throught the Narrows on Washademoak (Queens Co.) on Friday afternoon, a Mr. HAMM wished to be put on board and was taken out in a vessel by a son and daughter of Philip WHITE, aged respectively about 15 years. Mr. Hamm got on board without difficulty, but the boat, coming in contact with the scow, was upset and the children were thrown into the water. The boy caught the rope by which the scow was attached to the schooner and was saved, but the girl was unable to grapple with anything by which to buoy herself and was drowned. Her body was recovered on Saturday. Mr. White was absent in Boston at the time the accident occurred and was at once notified by telegraph of the sad event.
