Capt. William RISING, an esteemed resident of St. John, passed away yesterday at the age of 74 years. Capt. Rising was a native of Yarmouth, England. He came to this country about 45 years ago and for a time engaged in the deep sea trade, subsequently going into the coasting business. After some years thus spent he gave up the sea and ipened on the South wharf, becoming a prominent merchant. He carried on business there for about 25 years, retiring only about 12 years ago. He had a very strong constitution, but he had not been well since returning from Moncton last February, where he went to attend the funeral of his daughter, Mrs. Wm J. GIRVAN, and where it is thought he caught cold. During the past year he has been gradually failing. Capt, Rising's first wife was an English lady. After her death he married the widow of the late Duncan WATERBURY. Mrs. Rising's son, E.L. RISING of Messrs. Waterbury & Rising and one daughter, Miss Alice RISING, survive him. Messrs. Geo. H. WATERBURY and D.H. WATERBURY were his stepsons. The deceased was a member of Union Lodge of Portland, No. 10 F.& A.M. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from his residence 314 Union Street.
