Upper Ottnabog (Queens Co.) Nov. 24 - Abner RATHBURN, the victim of a shooting near here on Sunday, was to have been buried Tuesday as mortificationhad set in, but on orders from the notary public he was not interred. On Wednesday an inquest was held on the remains. Several witnessed were examined after a jury of the following persons had been sworn in viz.: Stephen E. CLARKE, Christopher McCONCHIE, Wesley McCONCHIE, David NICKERSON, David McCORKLE, John DAVIS and Jeremiah DAVIS, sr. The inquest began at noon and continued until 3 o'clock in the morn. of the next day. At 3:20 the coroner was through adressing the jury, so Constable McConchie escorted them to another house a few rods distant as there was not sufficient room where they had first been. After an absence of about two hours, the jury returned a verdict that Abner Rathburn had come to his death from a shot fired from a gun in the hands of Judson BROWN. J. DeVeber Neales appeared for the prisoner and Arthur Abbet, clerk of the peace for Queens Co. appeared in his official capacity. Judson Brown is to be tried before a magistrate's court to be held today when very strong evidence will be given against him.
