There seems to be little doubt that the Dr. BLACK who was drowned from U.S. Man of War "Tallapoosa" was Dr. Clarence BLACK youngest s/o late Samuel BLACK of Westmorland Co., N.B. and brother of Dr. BLACK, M.P.P. of Baie Verte (West. Co.) Dr. Black had two sisters resident in Saint John, but are at present in London, England. He was 35 years of age and has been a surgeon in the American navy for 10 years or more. He was unmarried. (see D.T. Aug. 23, 1884 p.2 c.3 'Gone to the Bottom: A United States War Ship Sunk by a Schooner')
