A letter from Coroner Bennett to John F. MASTERS states that the "Rival" went ashore on the Bay Shore, Upper Granville, N.S. and three men and a lad about 16 years old were drowned. An inquest was held. Memorandum were found containing the named of Capt. Michael PARKINSON of (St. John) city, Henry WALTMAN of Point Wolf, Alma (Albert Co.). Also appeared were the names of Wm FOUNTAIN, Edward WILSON and J. BURNS. FOUNTAIN, however, is said to have left the vessel some time ago and cannot be among those lost. WALTON is supposed to have died from exposure after getting on shore. (see original)
