Thomas FORBES, has just retired from the position of senior clerk to the Assts. Adjutant General which he held for nearly 31 years. He enlisted in August 1840 in the 76th Regt., now the 2nd Batt. West Riding Regt. stationed at Bermuda and rose to the rank of color-sgt. and orderly room clerk. In 1857 he was transferred to the staff as senior clerk. In 1865 he was discharged with pension, being permitted to retain his clerkship. He was stationed in the Halifax garrison. He married a sister of Sgt. Major Richard H. PAYNE of 71st Batt. - 'Halifax Mail', 2nd, 31st (see original)
