Our Hampton correspondent wrote Thursday morn. - Deputy Sheriff SPROUL passed away at 5:30 o'clock this a.m. after a long illness. He was deputy sheriff for nearly 30 years. Deputy Sheriff Sproul was born at Smith's Creek (Kings Co.) May 28th, 1827 and consequently was 68 years of age. His first public office was that of special deputy under the late Sheriff EARLE and after the latter's death commenced farming at Nauwidgewauk, where he was when the present sheriff came into office, who appointed him deputy sheriffin 1868 which position he has filled ever since. During his term of office he had for several years the position of deputy registrar and also that of deputy revising officer with Judge Wedderburn. He married a Miss DEMILL of Hampton, by whom he has four children now living. They are Fred M. SPROUL, John SPROUL and A.J. SPROUL, the latter being councillor for his native parish and Alma SPROUL widow of F.M. ANDERSON of Big Salmon River (St. John). The funeral takes place Sarurday 2 o'clock from his residence near the Court House at Hampton.
