Boston, Feb. 24 - When Howard D. TROOP of St. John arrived here last night he received the unwelcome news of the loss of one of his vessels, the "Josie Troop". Norfolk, Va., Feb. 23 - The barque "Josie Troop", with a cargo of chalk and a crew of 17 men, was wrecked at 7 o'clock last eve. The master and ten men were drowned; six were saved. The "Josie Troop" sailed from London Jan. 2 for Philadelphia. The barque was caught in the fierce northeasterly gale which prevailed yesterday afternoon and last night off the Atlantic coast. She soon lost her headway and became unmanageable. After drifting about for some time she was pitched on the rocks on the coast of Chicamico. The vessel was so badly damaged that she went to pieces in a short time. Saved: Robert HUNTER, chief mate; Edward HARRIS, steward; Albert WILLIAMS, A. BROWN, Walter CAULEY and C. ANDERSON, seaman. Lost: Capt. W.G. COOK, C.S. SCINDBALD, carpenter; J.B. RUTHDERSON, Thomas McCOY, Geo. WILLIAMS, Harmond ANDERSON, John COFFIE, Charles MEDRAE, John ROGERS and J. JOHANNSEN, seaman.
