Thomas Henry COLTER is of Irish Descent, both his parents having been natives of the Emerald Isle. He was born at Sheffield (Sunbury Co.) November 1850 and received his education at the county school, Mouth of Keswick, and at the Fredericton Grammar School. Mr. Colter is a successful agriculturalist and before his election to the Legislature had valuable experience in the municipal county of York where he served for many years and for two terms filled the position of warden. He is an Independent in federal politics and a prominent member of the Orange lodge in which he has twice held the position of deputy grand master. Mr. Colter is a well known temperance man and in 1891 was elected grand chief templar of the I.O.G.T. He was a candidate for the House of Assembly in 1890, but in the by-election in October of that year was on the ticket with Hon. A.G. Blair, Messrs. Wilson and Anderson and was returned by a handsome majority.
