Letter from Rev. G.M. DEXTER dated Soquel, California, July 10th - A sad accident occurred yesterday near the mill of Grover & Co. Wilmot WEST and Edward WEST were engaged in swamping when a log above them started down the hill, striking the one upon which they were at work. Both men jumped for their lives, but Mr. West was caught and terribly crushed. Two physicians were soon at the scene and did all in their power to relieve his sufferings, but he lived only four hours. Mr. West was lately from Royalton (Carleton Co.) N.B. His brothers, George WEST and Charles WEST are well known here. The funeral was conducted by Rev. G.M. Dexter.
